Fairfax County Family Law Mediation Attorneys
After a couple gets a divorce, it is often the anger and the pain that stays with them. Months, and sometimes years, after the divorce has been finalized, former spouses have still not begun the healing process because they remain trapped and find themselves unable to embrace their new futures or move forward.
For couples who are able to work together, however, there is an alternative that can save them time, money and, in many cases, much of the emotional anguish. Through a process called mediation, both spouses are given the opportunity to have an equal say in every decision that is made with regard to the final divorce agreement.
Many couples who have gone through mediation have reported being more satisfied with the result. In addition, some research indicates that mediated settlements have a better chance of being adhered to by both spouses, presumably, since they each had a hand in every decision that was made.
Providing Comprehensive Divorce Mediation Services
At the Nova Family Law Group, our Fairfax mediation attorneys provide mediation services in two primary capacities: either as your mediator or as independent counsel to advise you as you work through the mediation process.
As your mediator, we would not represent either spouse. We would serve as a neutral third party focused solely on helping the spouses resolve their disputes. We would not provide legal advice to either spouse but might advise you of your rights under the law if questions were to arise during the process.
We also represent clients who are going through mediation. Depending on the format of the mediation, we would either be in the room with you or in a room nearby to provide support and advice during negotiations. Once all disputes have been resolved, we will draft and/or review the final divorce agreement based on the decisions reached during the mediation.
